3 solid sticks, 1 good stick, (i have never had a bahia, so i cannot comment), and a very nice price.
good to see 42 back on his game!
Never had the Nat Sherman, but have heard only good things. The other four sticks are good smokes – love the LGC Wavel, the Sosa is Fuente-esque (correct me if i’m wrong, but I think it IS a Fuente product, right?), the Oliva is awesome (for those needing ratings, it was the “rumble in the bundle” winner for 2007 in the ‘Blowing Smoke’ podcast… and it has a decent set of magazine reviews to boot), and the Bahia is one of the creamiest cocoa-intense maduros I’ve experienced. The four I mentioned have the stereotypical “cocoa n coffee” maduro profile, in one way or another. The LGC has a sweeter finish but also has some light pepper on the back of the palate. Sosa is milder in intensity and smoother. Bahia has a “textured”/ creamy, tongue- coating smoke, and the flavor itself is like the center of those creame-filled caramel candies, yet has abundant cocoa/ distinctly Cadbury chocolate (the British chocolate of choice, which is much more “mouth- coating” than, say, hershey’s or the likes) taste. Lastly, the Oliva… I can’t pick out the white- pepper that I’ve been told is in it, but I thought it only fair to mention it. As for me, it’s stronger in the espresso and coffee, while lighter on the cocoa, compared to other maduros. I get strong earthy flavors, somewhat (this may be an odd descriptor…) savory and meaty flavors that I can’t place, yet like.
All in all, it’s a decent sampler, and the price isn’t bad either. The Bahia’s alone are like 5 or 5.50 in the local B&M’s, and that’s when you can find them, so for a nice selection I (personally) think it’s a fair/ decent price for some GREAT sticks.
Just my 2 cents worth,
