Discuss today’s cigar – Camacho Coyolar Pefecto #1 5-Pack
I’m hoping one of you experts will see this and might be able to answer my question. Two days ago I went into my local shop and was looking around and I saw Gurkha’s and naturally I was going to buy one when the owner pointed out that there was a leather case with three Gurkha’s in it for 20.00 dollars in cluding the case. Naturally I pulled the trigger. I mean I knew this was a great deal regardless… three Gurkhas for 20 dollars and a leather carrying case who wouldn’t??? Now I just want to know more about the Cigars because I’ve never hear of this line before and I can’t find too much about it online. The Cigars are Gurkha Black Dragons they are 8.5×52 and are definately on the darker side toward maduro. Any information at all would be appreciated. TIA
Dude…Its a Gurkha….does it really matter? Do yourself a favor, and never buy a Gurkha again. They are a joke. Seriously.
Dressed in a dark and toothy, 5-year old Cameroon wrapper, the Black Dragon hails from Honduras and combines a vintage mixture of Nicaraguan and Peruvian long-leaf tobaccos. The smoke is thick and chewy, with a rich, leathery core and elegant hints of earth, complemented by an assortment of sweet spices on the finish. Medium in body and complex, yet buttery smooth, the Black Dragon is unlike any Gurkha you’ve tried before.
do not listen to electrobot. there are some bad gurkhas like the expedition, Boer, and the Vintage (the worst cigar EVER). but there are some excellent ones like the doble maduro, black puro, centurian xx, class regent…and so many more!
Back to today’s cigar… This line (a different size) was recently reviewed on Cigar Jack I probably won’t be pulling the trigger as I’m not a big fan of black pepper dominant cigars but for those that are this is probably one to try.
You did indeed do well to get the Gurkha Black Dragon Grand Especial three-pack for $20 at a b&m (not to mention the case—but that thing must be huge to hold three 8.5 inch sticks). Best online price is $31, and that’s from a source notorious for selling “smokeware” (i.e., not in stock). I’ve smoked nearly the entire Gurkha line, and the BD is easily my favorite. Savor those stogies!
I really appreciate everyones input, although wtf I think you might be talking about a the Gurkha Dragonfire not the Black Dragon becasue I finally found the Black Dragon on Gurkhas websight and it lists it as a connecticut maduro broad leaf wrapper, a cameroon binder and dominican filler, but the dragonfire does match your discription wtf, but again thanks for trying. And fischej what is your take on the flavor of the Blackdragon? Thanks for your input again everyone.
As for todays cigar AWESOME. I had one of these in new orleans last spring. It definately classifies as Rubusto and will kick your A** on an empty stomach. But it has lots of chocolate and spice for sure. If i wasn’t a broke college student who just spent his cigar budget for the month I would definately pull the trigger on this one.
Is there any Camacho cigar tha doesn’t kick your ass?
Every one I’ve ever tried has made me sick and sometimes on a full stomach. They make STRONG cigars.
Though I have never had a problem with the Regents, I have had many issues with most of the boutique Gurkhas, almost always with the thin, fragile wrappers falling and flaking apart. Luckily I love the taste of the Regents and they are very well made.
On-line retailers and b&m’s have insane pricing on all Gurkhas. Most lines, not all, can be had for 2 or 3 bucks apiece if bought in 5-packs from a well known auction site. Maybe a little more $$$ but certainly not the $10-$18 nonsense on websites.

Been a while since I’ve had a few minutes to be online, so I thought I’d post to this thread…
First, the Black Dragon started out as a super- expensive stick, super rare (limited production, I mean), etc – you get the picture. For info, see http://www.velvetcigar.net/?p=188 and start reading the bold- italicized text under the first humidor thumbnail.
They changed the blend, but kept the name – and banding, and that is VERY likely what you’ve bought. While I’ve only ever had the later of those two blends (thank you wtf? for introducing me to them!! you truly are a master and I’m not even worthy of cleaning up the ash from your smokes!!) I will say that they’re awesome smokes. I’ve seen them online for ~11 bucks a pop, so you’ve got a steal of a deal at your B&M. The original blend was rolled in Honduras with African Cameroon, Dominican, and Connecticut tobaccos, and was aged and extra 12 to 15 years post-rolling. The blend that is out now, however, is blended with a 5-year old Cameroon wrapper housing Nicaraguan and Peruvian tobaccos.
Heavy on the leather flavor range, with some sweet spices on the finish/ exhale, and some minimal earthy, ‘campfire pit after a rain’ undertones – in a good way… Retrohale the smoke (blow back through your nose after puffing) and you get a slight woody, earthy element under a very distinct gingersnap overtone (that may sound like some snob making up random flavors, but if you ever experience it, it’s obvious that the gingersnap is the aroma). All in all, it’s a great smoke for me. Kinda pricey, yes, and I’m sure that for the price I can find a dozen other cigars I’d also like to smoke… but as it stands, I do like the cigar.
Now… for the Camacho: Strong on pepper. I love camachos, but some of their blends are a little “eh?” for me – that is, too much power without a taste blending to back it up. Don’t get me wrong, I smoke a cammie Diploma at least every week – LOVE that stick! The coyolars are almost TOO heavy on the pepper and TOO light on anything else for MY taste profile. Are they great for what they claim to deliver? Spot on. Does that match MY preference? Honestly, I’ll smoke them if handed one, but I won’t go out of my way to buy them… Just being honest.
Just my 2 cents worth,
